URDD - May 2000

The Alun School was very well represented at a number of sporting events organised by the Urdd at both area and county level. Year 10 teams competed in 5 a side football, 11 a side football, netball and rugby competitions.

Urdd Eisteddfod

This term has been particularly busy for the large number of pupils who competed in stage events at the Eisteddfod. Congratulations to all those who reached the county Eisteddfod and good luck to Ian Roe 8CP (Disco Dancing) and Emily Jeffcott 7GW (Brass Solo) who will represent the school at the National Eisteddfod in May.

Here are some of their experiences:

I entered two competitions in the Urdd. The first was the recitation, which was fun as I learnt how to say and understand new Welsh words. In the recitation we achieved third place in the first round.

The other competition I entered was the disco dance, it was great fun making up our own dance. We were a group of six, consisting of myself, Jessica Coppack, Christopher Hampton, Carly Bates, Joanne Bamber and Charlotte James. We came fourth, which was last place, but I enjoyed it so much that I did not care what we came, after all it is the taking part that counts !!!

Kay Williams 7CE

This year I competed in the Urdd Eisteddfod with my friends jessica, Lydia, Chris, Charlotte, Carly, Kay and Emily. I competed in two competitions, Group Recitation and Group Disco Dance. For the group Recitation we had to read a welsh poem ‘The Gang’. In the first round we came third. We had done really well and I didn’t realise that we would go on to compete in the next round. In the secound round we came fourth. Unfortunately, this time we did not get through, but it didn’t matter because I really enjoyed it.

We also took part in the disco dance competition. There was six of us in the group and it was fun making up our own dance. We finished fourth out of six groups.

Cwrs Blwyddyn 9 - Glanllyn - Gorffennaf.

Year 9 Glanllyn Course

The present year 10 students visited Glanllyn last July - here are some of their comments :

Mae Glanllyn yn sefyll yn naturiol mewn cwm ar ian Llyn Tegid wedi amgylchu gan fynyddoedd a thyfiant gwyrdd. Mae llawer a weithgareddau yn y gwersyll fel dringo wal, llafnrholio, bowlio deg, dehongli problemau, cerdded a gweithgareddau ar y llyn wrth gwrs. Mae staff Glanllyn yn help mawr ac yn hwyl hefyd.

Tom a Jamie

Hwylio! Canwio ! Nofio ! Disgo ! Bowlio ! Wal ddringo ! Cerdded ! Ystafell wel y gyda toiled a chawod ! Pêl fasged, pêl droed, pêl rwyd! Ystafell gemau. Helfa drysor a mwy !!

Helen, April, Carol, Lisa ac Amy

Rydw i’n meddwl bod Glanllyn yn hwyl. Chwaraeais i pêl fasged a pêl rwyd ac roedd y bowlio deg yn gret

Lisa Elias

Hoffais i y disgo achos roedd pawb yn hapus.

Sarah Davies

Yn fy marn i mae hwylio yn well na cherdded achos rydw i’n hoffi dwr ! Roedd yr ystafell yn grêt !

Jenny Norris

Glanllyn was an excellent trip. It was great fun. We did learn things but in a fun way, e.g. we learnt about the legend of Bala Lake and made a short film about it.

I liked the party on the second night. All the activities were good but the party was the best ! Everyone danced, even the teachers and we were all shattered afterwards!

Julia and Jenny Anderton.

I loved doing the climbing, it was great fun and I can’t wait to have another go at it.

Jon Rowlandson

Glanllyn was loads of fun especially when we did the activities. I enjoyed myself the whole time. The whole atmosphere was brilliant and the disco at the end topped off a great three days at GLANLLYN!!

Dan Buckland

Glanllyn was great ! All in all we had a great time and I can’t wait to go again !

Owain Kelly.
