Introduction

The Library is open from 8.00am until 4.30pm and all students are welcome during break and lunchtimes as well as before and after school. The stock of over 16,000 quality books is available for borrowing by staff or students.

Project loans can also be provided for staff wishing to take collections of books to class for research work. Staff and students may use the Library as a base for research, as a quiet reading area in the fiction section, as a study area, or for accessing CD ROM or the Internet . Year 7 and 8 English classes are timetabled to use the reading area for one lesson each fortnight.

Some students receive extra literacy lessons on an Integrated Learning System using the Library computers and there is also a Paired Reading scheme, whereby Sixth Form students spend time on a daily basis encouraging their Year 7 partners to develop the enjoyment of reading.

The Library also promotes reading by arranging competitions and quizzes regularly. There is also a Book Club for buying books and an enthusiastic Book Reviewing Team.

Every effort is made to ensure that learning is as easy and enjoyable as possible.
