School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG)

As part of its ongoing commitment to the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme (W.N.H.S.S.), the Alun School has its very own School Nutrition Action Group (S.N.A.G). S.N.A.G. is a group of interested representatives that have formed a committee to discuss all matters related to healthy eating and balance diets at the school. The committee is made up of representatives from the canteen and tuck shop staff , dieticians, teachers and most importantly pupils.

The current members are:-

Jodie Whelan 11GG

Gill Chapman : Catering Supervisor (FCC)

Haydn Evans 9GC

Carol Hughes: Manager of Alun School Canteen.

Ryan Williams 10CE

Mr Bowyer: Head of P.E.

Jose Sherwood 11C

Ms Carberry: Head of P.S.E

Sophie Jones 11PH

Mrs J. Goodwin: Teaching Assistant

Gabriella Jones 10CR

Mrs D. Pritchard: Manager of School Shop

Jessica Schreuder 9DJ

The purpose of the committee is to promote a whole school, (where pupils spend one-third of their time!), approach to healthy eating, both in school and at home, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and publicising the obvious link between diet and good health.

Minutes are taken at each meeting, where topics such as the vending machines, snack bars, themed days, weekly menus etc are discussed. The minutes are available and can be read by all.

The committee meet each half term, during a Personal and Social Education lesson. Meetings are held in the school canteen.
