Assemblies in Gwent House

For this assembly, we walked into the hall and saw Dr. Erasmus at the front with his microwave! We didn’t know what was going to happen and we were curious to see what would happen.

He then got out a pancake and heated it up in the microwave which smelt nice!! He then chose Katy Griffiths from Year 8 to come out as it was her birthday. He asked her to flip the pancake which she couldn’t do as it was stuck to the frying pan! It took her a few goes to eventually flip the pancake successfully.

Dr Erasmus then spoke about Lent and the religious festivities that surround that period of the Christian calendar. He then gave Katy an Easter egg as a reward for coming out in front of everyone. However, he took it back off her which was funny and a bit tight as you have to give up all your favourite and yummy stuff for lent. We hope Katy remembers to collect the egg of Dr Erasmus at the end of lent.

Gwent Cricketer Returns from Oz

Former Gwent pupil Ben Williams popped in for a visit this week having returned from playing cricket in Australia. After leaving Gwent House and the Alun School Ben has completed his A-Levels in the prestigious Shrewsbury School, which he attended through a Cricket Scholarship. As part of the scholarship Ben toured and played Cricket in countries such as Australia, which he described as an “amazing experience”. Ben has spent the last 6 months playing cricket in Perth, Australia for Ocean Ridge Cricket Club. He his now planning to attend Leeds-Metropolitan University to study Law and this summer he will be playing for Prestatyn Cricket Club. Younger brother Joe Williams in 10GC, is hoping to follow in his big brothers footsteps and attend the Shrewsbury school, although Joe’s ambition is to play cricket in South Africa.

We wish Ben and Joe all the success for the future.

Miss Benson's Trip to China

Miss Benson went to China and she said that in the mornings they have to do aerobics. Their school starts at 08:50am and finishes at 05:00pm but sometimes 09:00pm. They have exams every week and if they do not pass their exams, they have to stay in the same year until they have passed them. They have to walk up 70 stairs per day because the buildings are very tall. They have 10 minutes between each lesson.
