5x60
What is the 5x60 scheme?
The Welsh Assembly Government has laid down the fitness gauntlet by setting the target of seeing 90% of young people taking part in regular and frequent activity by 2020. 5x60 is rising to that challenge by helping to create the environment necessary for children to take part in extra-curricular sport and physical activity on a regular basis.
But why 5x60?
Health ministers have stated that young people need to participate in 5 hours of physical activity every week in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. 5 hours = 5 x 60 minutes = 5x60!
How do you get involved in activities?
Your 5x60 officer Michelle is based at the PE office. You can either call in to gather more information or just turn up at the 5x60 activities which run during the lunch break and after school.
What type of activities are available?
Your 5x60 officer will organise the activities that YOU want. Therefore, the range of activities that will be on offer are huge - and that's on top of what the school is already offering! You can look forward to activties such as basketball, canoeing, cheerleading, dance, squash, football and many more. There will be someting for everybody, so you don't need to be superb at swimming or fantastic at football to join in. The more the merrier!
